If you want to get ahead at work you’re going to have to take on the assignments no one else wants, probably stay late and come in early at times all with the objective being to be the most versatile problem solver on staff.
Your employer hired you for solutions, not excuses. If you’re asked to do something you’re not sure how to do, research it and time permitting learn it and apply it at work. The vast amount of available information on the Internet leaves no wiggle room when it comes to learning. A lot of your co-workers will be unwilling to go outside the box and learn something different – this is where you can get the jump on them and align yourself for a better position.
In today’s streamlined work places it’s all about skillsets. A divesified portfolio of skillsets will have the money chasing you instead of you chasing the money because the more you bring to the evaluation table, the more leverage you have in negotiating and increase in salary.
